Grandfather - Father's Side
Donald Arthur Pilkey – served as a paratrooper in the Asian theater of World War II and was a Chief Warrant Officer in the US Army Reserves. He was a terrific high school athlete and enjoyed watching NFL football. Grandpa Pilks retired as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Builders Equipment Supply and for a time was a Bellingham Firefighter.

Grandmother - Father's Side
Doris Elaine “Messick” Pilkey – was a devoted employee of Georgia Pacific for over 30 years. Doris was known for her great sense of humor and was well-liked throughout her life.

Grandfather - Mother's Side
John Lewis Franklin Dickerson III - after graduating from the University of Oregon became a prominent dentist and businessman in Whatcom County. He was recognized for providing affordable dental care for impoverished citizens including children of the Lummi Indian reservation. His influence spread to the capitol, where he and his wife were flown to the inauguration of Governor Rossellini. During World War II, John served as Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy. He was an avid gambler, prospector for gold, big game hunter, owned a car dealership, raced cars, belonged to the Kiwanis Club, and established the 4th of July firework celebration on Bellingham Bay.

Grandmother - Mother's Side
Lillian Amelia Elizabeth “Jones” Dickerson – After a beautiful life of 96 years, grams will forever inspire Chris’s passion for family, travel, art, history, sports, music, politics and people. Lillian earned a Teaching/Education degree from Western Washington College, and subsequently received two more degrees. She owned a fine shoe store, helped found the Unity Church, was a terrific artist and designed the house where she raised her three children. Lol and her mother Elizabeth Jones started the first Children's Orthopedic guild in Whatcom County, was devoted to the YWCA, and was philanthropic for a variety of other causes. She was an advocate for woman's issues and even received a personal visit from Eleanor Roosevelt. She traveled to nearly every continent.

Father
Stanley Robert Pilkey (POPS) – Graduated with a Sociology degree from Western Washington State College. Stan was a United States Federal Agent for 32 years, collaring criminals ranging from fraud cases to explosives. Currently, Stan is a consultant for the US Postal Inspection Service specializing in mail fraud cases. He served in the US Army Reserves and earned his stripes as a Parole and Probation Officer. He is a human lie detector, so if you speak with him be sure to tell the truth. Stan is known as the Moscow, Idaho Pool Champion, for his dry sense of humor, and ordering everything well-done from steak to toast.

Mother
Marilee K “Dickerson” Pilkey (MOMS) – taught at Emanuel Day School for 16 years and previously taught French and Spanish. She graduated Western Washington State College and did her graduate work at the University of Washington. She continually spoils her family and her 463 best friends with her phenomenal cooking skills and thoughtfulness. Marilee is a ringer on the ping pong table and is a huge Seattle sports fan.

Uncle - Mothers Side
John "Biff" Lewis Franklin Dickerson IV – The man, the myth, the legend, is Chris's Uncle and Godfather. Biff attended the University of Washington, served in the US Navy, is an Entreprenuer/Real Estate Investor, and is very active with the Lions Club of Whatcom County. He continues to be a positive role model and enormous influence in Chris's life.

Aunt - Mothers Side
Marcia "Dickerson" DeLorme – Chris's Aunt Marcia attended the University of Washington and recieved a Masters from San Diego State University in Rehabilitation Counseling. She is well known in family circles for beating Chris in a highly contested Chinese Checkers Match. Marcia is tremendously proud of her nine grandchildren and visits her talented daughter Britt in NYC as often as possible.

Grandfather - Father's side
Benny Schwartz – a larger than life figure and successful band leader during the golden era of Las Vegas. Benny grew up in Chicago and was raised in an orphanage. He had exceptional music talent and for fear of prejudice, changed the family name.
Grandmother - Father's side
Edna “Fischer” Short – Grew up in Chicago. She moved to Las Vegas where she had Steven and Janice and eventually moved to LA where the family was raised. She enjoyed being around people and especially loved dogs. Edna volunteered at the humane society. She had a warm heart and would give her shoes to someone if she knew it would make them happy. Side note: Edna and Chris knew one another from Chris's job at the local crossroads grocery store.

Grandfather - Mother's side
Herman Fishman – Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Herman served in the US army and worked as a Director for the New York State Department of Labor. He attended City University of New York and Studied Russian at the University of Pennsylvania. He was a large contributor to the Special Olympics and was extremely friendly and well-liked by everyone he came in contact with. He loved socializing with people, but he especially enjoyed his time with his family!

Louise “Brinberg“ Fishman – Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Louise worked for a vocational school for mentally and physically disabled young adults. She was a talented cook and story teller and a terrific grandmother to Annie, Shelly and Ben.Herman and Louise following their nuptials, 1950 |

Steven Owen Short aka Steve or Esteban is an ENT Head and Neck Surgeon for Group Health Cooperative. He grew up in Las Vegas, NV and Los Angeles, CA and attended UCLA for undergrad and Medical School. He fell in love with Seattle during his residency at the University of Washington Medical Center. Steve is an avid outdoorsman and environmentalist; he enjoys climbing, hiking, skiing and is a talented guitarist.

Mother
Etta Celia “Fishman” Short – Born and raised in Brooklyn NY, Etta left for the sunny skies of Los Angeles, CA to attend UCLA. There she earned a degree in English and later a Masters in Public Health from the University of Washington. She currently works for Allere Wellbeing, creating training programs for smoking cessation, weight loss, and stress management. Etta loves reading, music, travel, vampires, running and skiing. Etta has funny stories of Woody Allen, once was kissed by Dustin Hoffman and was friends with Bill Gates in the early days of Microsoft.

Janice "Short" Grauer and Jay Grauer – Janice was a talented musician; performing for an array of audiences from Benaroya Hall to Laker Games. Jay is a musician/composer and currently resides in Lake Tahoe. Jay once worked for the Philharmonic of New York and received two masters degrees.

Joan and Paul Fishman – Brooklyn born and raised, Paul earned his bachelors from American University in DC. He moved to Seattle where he received his PhD in Economics. He currently works for the Group Health Research Institute and as a professor of Economics at the University of Washington. He is also a huge NY Giants fan!
